The Dieng Plateau has a tropical climate. Because it is located in ±2,000 meters above the top of the sea & squeezed by the 4 mountains, the air is quite cold. In the dominant expression of drought during the day the temperature ranges from 15o C – 10o C while at night the temperature ranges from 5o C – 10o C, and sometimes reaches 0o and generally the condition is considered “Bun Upas”, which is thin snow or dew that sweeps the highlands using temperatures below freezing. Dieng is located to the west of Mount Sindoro & Mount Sumbing, Dieng is an active volcanic area that is also a super large mountain in the form of a large plain using a length of approximately 9 miles (14 km) and a width of 4 miles (6 km) extending according to the southwest-southeast direction. The height of Dieng reaches 2000 meters above the nautical surface.
Administratively where the Dieng Plateau is owned by wonosobo regency & Banjaregara regency. Wonosobo Regency has an eastern dieng area (Dieng Wetan) in Kejajar District. While the western area (Dieng Kulon) in Batur District belongs to Banjarnegara Regency.
The area of Dieng Wetan is 282,000 ha, inhabite by a population of 1,557 people. In contrast, Dieng Kulon is wider base on Dieng Wetan, using an area of 337,864 ha inhabite by the population of two,480 people.
Dieng Plateau can be accessed through several paths. The route was through Banjarnegara, Batang and Wonosobo. However, among these lines, the most effective and efficient is through Wonosobo. The distance of the Dieng Plateau with the wonosobo government center is 26 km which can be passed by motorcycle, four-wheeled vehicles and micro buses. The road to the Dieng Plateau cannot be passed by using a grand-sized bus. This is because the road to Dieng is very narrow using winding and uphill terrain.
The main function of the Dieng Plateau area today in addition to being an agricultural and plantation plain, is also an area that is being develope base on the tourism sector and the center of the heat energy or geothermal electricity industry.

This crater is a volcanic caldera using a hole in the plains area so that the caldera uses an area of approximately 200 m2 and still exists in flat ground, as a result it can be witnesse directly according to the crater lip. Sikidang Crater is the largest active crater in the Dieng Plateau. Until now Sikidang Crater is still actively releasing hot steam as a result of boiling and turbulent crater water. The characteristic smell of fiery mountains, puffs of white smoke always decorate the appearance of this caldera. The hot steam that comes out accompanie by a burst of gray boiling water always appears to move around and jump up and down from like a kid.
Sikidang Crater is interesting to be use as a tourist attraction because in addition to presenting volcanic natural charm. Candradimuka Crater is one of the Dieng calderas locate 7 km according to the Dieng Plateau. This crater is not actually a volcanic caldera but is a solfatara appearance of soil fractures. There are 2 fracture holes that are still actively removing solfatara, one is releasing continuously and the other intermittently.
