Parangkusumo Beach, the Sacred Beach in Yogyakarta

Parangkusumo Beach is a beach that lies in Yogyakarta. The beach is so beautiful and so sacred. You can feel the sacred atmosphere once you stepped in the area for the first time. When you enter the area, you will soon smell the scent of flowers and incense. The flowers and incense are meant for materials of offering. There is a sacred story regarding the beach. The offering that you see is actually made for Queen of South. The queen is believed to be the wife of the ruler of Yogyakarta. All the descendents of the ruler will be the husband of the Queen of South. This is an amazing story about the beach. 
Location
          Parangkusumo Beach is situated about 30 km from the city of Yogyakarta. It is side by side with Parangtritis and Depok Beaches. Administratively, the beach lies in Parangtritis Village, Kretek, Bantul, Yogyakarta. To reach the beach, you can go by public transportation from Giwangan bus station. 
         You can then take a bus towards Parangtritis. You only need to pay for Rp15.000 (US$1.50). When you have arrived at the beach, you must pay for the ticket, about Rp 3,000 (less than one dollar). When entering the beach location, you can see the most fantastic view. You can see perfect waves rolling, feel the see breeze and listen to the sound of the waves hitting the rock. It’s all soothing and relaxing.

Activities
          At Parangkusumo Beach, it is not allowed to do dangerous water activities like surfing or diving. The waves here are too powerful. However, you can play in the shallow water, and swim. Playing in the water will be fun. You can also build castles from the sand or simply write your name on the sand. 
          Otherwise, you can sit down and enjoy the panorama. You can take pictures of the surrounding area. The perfect time to visit the beach is in the evening, when the sun is about to set. You can enjoy the beautiful sunset. You can also walk around the beach, enjoying the cool breeze and the sea wind. This is so comforting.

Accommodations
          Yogyakarta has many comfortable hotels. However, the hotels near Parangkusumo Beach is only a few. They include Pramesthi Jogja, Brongto Hotel and many others around Malioboro. Visiting the beach should also lead you to visit the nearby beaches, such as Parangtritis and Depok. 
       Having visited the beach, you feel you have entered the most sacred place. Especially, the offering and the flowers fragrance. You should respect the sacred story of the beach. Don’t say anything reckless. Appreciating the belief of the people around the beach will guarantee your safety. Stay cool and simply enjoy the panorama of the beach.

          You can visit Parangkusumo Beach at the time of offering. You’ll find that it is a unique culture that involves almost all the people around the area. The offering is an interesting activity. You will see that large of various food, fruit and meat are included in the offering.
